CYCLING IN SIDMOUTH
19.1
Cyclists Welcome
A new UK
wide scheme had been introduced. This was developed with expert advice and support
from the Countryside Agency and the Youth Hostel Association and would give confidence
to cyclists that they were booking quality accommodation that met their
particular needs.
RESOLVED:
That the following actions be carried out:
1)
Councillor Pollentine to contact Quality in Tourism to enquire what criteria
are needed for accommodation providers to display the Cyclists Welcome logo.
2) James
Sharp to circulate to his members to enquire how many can meet the criteria and
would wish to be part of the scheme.
3) Other
accommodation providers who are not members of the Sidmouth & Hospitality Assoc.
be emailed to enquire how many can meet the criteria and would wish to be part
of the scheme.
4) The
Sidmouth Information Centre Manager to consider how to make Sidmouth a ‘Cyclists
Welcome’ town and how best to implement the scheme.
19.2
Cycle West
The Cycle
West project was a cross-border cycle network between Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Brittany
and Normandy. The European Union, as well as 17 partners of the project, had invested
more than 8 million Euros in developing three routes with over 1,000kms of safe
and enjoyable cycling across international frontiers.

That this project be noted and welcomed.

Cyclists Welcome establishments are cyclist-friendly, many of them recommended by CTC members. Listings include details of a variety of accommodation types, cafes and cycle hire operators.
