District Council: Have you booked your place for the Working Together Community Conference? Friday 11th October

There might still be places for the upcoming session headed by Cllr Jill Elson, for those of you who were not on the original invitation list:

Dear all,
You have booked your place at Cllr Jill Elson's event for voluntary and community groups taking place on Friday 11 October 2013 from 9.30am to 2.30pm (original invitation below).

We have an exciting and packed agenda and have managed to get speakers including Cllr Andrea Davis, Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board at Devon County Council, Hugo Swire MP and a very successful voluntary group running in Exmouth called Open Door. We’re currently finalising the agenda and will e-mail it out to you next week. There will also be many stalls available during the lunch break where you can find out all sorts of information relevant to voluntary and community groups.

Please could you let me know by Monday 7 October if you have any special requirements, such as dietary requirements or accessibility requirements? For example, the room is at the top of a hill, so I can reserve spaces outside the room for those with disability requirements if you request one.

Please do let me know by Monday 7 October if you can no longer attend, as we need to know for catering purposes. Also, the event is currently fully booked, so it would free up spaces for anyone else who would like to come along.

The event is free but we are asking everyone to please bring along at least one item of non-perishable food (such as tins or packets) to donate to one of East Devons Foodbanks (three Foodbanks are coming along to the event and will split the donations between them). This is a very worthy cause as I’m sure you will agree.

Look forward to hearing from you, or seeing you at the event.

Regards

Miss Jamie Buckley

Working Together community conference date set

Monday 05 August
MEMBERS of East Devon voluntary organisations and community groups are invited along to East Devon District Council's free annual event called “Working Together for the Future of East Devon”.
The conference is on Friday 11 October and runs from 9.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. at EDDC’s Knowle offices in Sidmouth. Representatives of voluntary organisations, community groups and Town and Parish Councils are welcome to come along. The gathering aims to bring local agencies together to improve communications between the voluntary and statutory sectors.
During the day, attendees will find out more about significant family, health and well-being reforms that are happening nationwide, with particular reference to East Devon.
Guest speakers include the Chair of Devon County Council Health and Wellbeing Board. Delegates will also have an opportunity to find out information useful for grants applications and hear from a local community organisation that works closely with local families.
Foodbanks
They are also invited to bring with them items of non-perishable food – for example packets of dried food or tinned goods, which will be collected by local foodbanks and later handed out to needy families in the area.
Invitations for this free event have already been sent to Town and Parish Councils and community and voluntary groups that attended last year, but there are still places left. Places are limited to one per organisation / group and must be booked in advance.
To find out more or book your place please e-mail jbuckley@eastdevon.gov.uk or phone (01395) 517569 with your name and contact details and the name of the organisation you are representing before Friday 20 September 2013.
Councillor Jill Elson, EDDC Cabinet Member for Sustainable Homes and Communities, who is hosting the event, said: “I hope to see as many local community and voluntary groups as possible on the 11 October. I believe the Voluntary and Community Organisations provide vital benefits to our local communities – I am a volunteer myself and enjoy meeting others. We want to listen to you and exchange information on matters that will affect our local people”.
