The Future for Health in Sidmouth?

Like it or not, major changes are underway in health provision throughout England and Wales, and also locally here in Sidmouth.

The Vision Group for Sidmouth is responding to the demand for local citizens to get involved in implementing these changes. The Group’s Futures Forum is hosting a round table discussion upstairs at the Anchor in Old Fore Street at 3.15 pm on Tuesday 26th November. Local health leaders are grappling with a range of questions, including:

> What do the NHS reforms mean for this locality?
> What are the plans for the Sid Valley Practice’s new surgery?
> How can we care for a growing population of frail citizens?
> How will the upgrades help Sidmouth hospital?
> What is the role of Patient Participation Groups?
> How can we help Sidmouth become a more ‘dementia-friendly’ town?

“We are fortunate that our own NEW Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) places a high value on consultation with patients and practitioners” says Robert Crick, Chair of the Futures Forum, who has represented East Devon at two meetings between the CCG and the Devon community during the past year.

“While exciting new developments are in hand for Sidmouth, there is a fair amount of anxiety among health practitioners about the wider context of what the Daily Telegraph has described as ‘the April 1st revolution’. 65 years after the founding of the NHS these major recent reforms are complicated but this does not mean we can ignore them.

“We hope that people of all ages will bring their own questions to this meeting where we will be fortunate enough to have a range of experts and health professionals to advise on what is planned and what we can do about it.”
