Devon Waste Plan Consultation

Where should we be going with our waste?
Recycling?
Incineration?
Composting?
Anaerobic digestion?
Water filtration?

And how do businesses deal with their waste?

Devon County Council is asking what we should be doing over the next couple of decades:

Devon Waste Plan Consultation

Devon's Waste Plan is open for public consultation until 5pm on Monday 24th February. Have your say about Devon County Council's waste plans as this will possibly be your last chance before 2031.

Two items from the Executive summary are shown below regarding recycling and incineration.

E.6 Devon's households (373,000 tonnes) and businesses (455,000 tonnes) generate broadly similar levels and types of waste, but their combined waste is exceeded by that from construction, demolition and excavation activity (1.2 million tonnes).
There has been a strong shift away from landfilling of this waste towards recycling, with households and businesses now recycling around 55% of their waste.

E.7 It is predicted that household and business waste will grow over the period to 2031. Recycling is expected to increase beyond present levels, and there is adequate existing capacity available for the sorting, bulking, composting and recycling of this waste.
However, the need to maximise diversion from landfill will require provision of energy recovery capacity of around 380,000 tonnes within Devon, which will be achieved through existing facilities, the implementation of existing planning permissions and the delivery of a small number of new facilities.
