Plenty of good reasons to try it out:

Festival of South West Food and Drink 2014

If you’ve never been to the pretty cathedral city of Exeter, you’re missing a real treat. But if you want some more incentive to come and visit our county city, then the Exeter Food and Drink Festival is the perfect excuse for you to bundle the family into the car and head down to South Devon. Surrounded on all sides by spectacular countryside and just a few miles from the coast, Exeter has a unique West Country feel to it that’s celebrated every year in some dazzling festivals. The Exeter Food Festival is a series of events and shows centred on demonstrating the finest in traditional and contemporary cuisine, and is perfect for a gastro-holiday.

The Festival is held each year in the cultural quarter of the city, spread across the courtyard and grounds of the 1000-year-old cathedral. The area is one of the city’s most scenic, and perfect for a week of celebration of food and drink. Expansive greens in front of the cathedral give you ample opportunity to relax and do a spot of ‘people watching’ while you tuck into some delicious local fare. Amongst the various attractions to tempt you are a real ale festival, demonstrations by top TV chefs and live music. Chefs giving demonstrations on a range of cooking techniques and speciality recipes have included experts such as Lesley Waters and Susy Atkins.

Ideal for families

The festival is ideal for families, with plenty of cookery workshops and activities for children and grown ups. The idea of the festival is to promote and encourage quality home cooking using good local ingredients. The focus is on imagination and creativity, as well as giving you the chance to sample some of the best produce in the Devon area.

As the UK’s foremost food producing region, the West Country is full of all sorts of wonderful food and drink, and at the Exeter Food and Drink Festival you can sample a range of offerings at over 70 stalls. This is not just an event to watch; it’s something you can get actively involved in, from preparing exotic meals to creating some exciting desserts. The Exeter Food and Drink Festival is a discovery of a world of cuisine right on your doorstep.
