DURATION: 1 HOUR
Countryfile has an exclusive interview with the Princess Royal. Tom Heap speaks to Her Royal Highness at her home, Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, which she runs as a working farm. The princess discusses many of the big issues confronting the British countryside today and gives Tom a rare glimpse into her life on the estate.
Countryfile presenter Ellie Harrison also lives in Gloucestershire, and she is looking for ideas about what to do with her own slightly more modest smallholding. The initial plan is to plant wild flowers, so she travels to meet the experts at Kew Gardens who have the perfect seed pack to start her off. But it's not just Ellie who is being encouraged to plant native wild flowers; the Countryfile audience also have the chance to get a free packet of seeds to plant in their own gardens.  SHOW LESS

    Grow Wild - Ellie
Countryfile is working with Kew’s Grow Wild campaign to give away 230,000 packets of wild flower seeds. There’s been a dramatic decline in the number of wild flowers in the UK over the last century and Kew’s campaign aims to make everyone aware of their importance to wildlife and the human food chain. The packs are full of seeds for native wild flowers, and there are different versions for Scotland, Ireland and England & Wales. This week, on the programme, Ellie gets a sneak preview of the packs and shows you how to plant them in your own garden – or even in an old pair of wellies. Tune in on Sunday night to find out how to get your pack of free seeds.

Countryfile free seed giveaway

Tune in to BBC One’s Countryfile on Sunday 6 April at 7pm to see us talk to show presenter Ellie Harrison about how to get sowing and growing at her Gloucestershire home. She visits Kew and Wakehurst Place to find out more about why wild flowers matter from Kew experts Kate Hardwick, Ted Chapman and Monique Simmonds. We're also giving away 230,000 free packets of seeds as part of the programme so you'll get the chance to revamp your own garden with beautiful wildflowers.

Neon Jungle's rooftop garden gig

On the same day chart-topping female four-piece Neon Jungle are headlining an exclusive rooftop gig in a top secret London venue, hosted by BBC Radio 1 Presenter Gemma Cairney. The event, for Grow Wild competition winners and their friends, offers a unique chance to meet the band and catch a sneak preview of their new single all taking place in a specially styled venue, a cool urban rooftop with gorgeous wild flowers.

Guerrilla gardening sessions

On Thursday 10 April the campaign continues at guerrilla gardener Richard Reynolds’ Elephant and Castle Mobile Garden HQ where garden bloggers and writers will get a hands-on session to learn more about Grow Wild at a special seeding event.

What's the Grow Wild project all about?

Grow Wild has already sent out over 21,000 seed kits to groups around the UK and awarded funding to almost 80 exciting community projects. We’re also going to be creating stunning flagship sites that people will love and use.The final shortlist for the English flagship site will be announced in August 2014, to be put to the public vote in autumn, so they can choose where they want this amazing space to be created. Further community site funding will be available in 2015, and flagship projects for Wales and Northern Ireland launched.
Funded by the Big Lottery Fund and led by the RBG Kew, Grow Wild is a mass participation programme running until 2017. We want to get together to encourage people to get together to transform unloved spaces, gardens and windowsills into wildlife-friendly wild flower patches.
