Sowing wildflower seeds in the Byes with the FOTB....... report and photos of the KOF award

Last Saturday, volunteers gathered at Sid Meadow in the Byes:
Futures Forum: Sowing wildflower seeds in the Byes with the FOTB: Saturday 19th April
having raised the funds through the KOF:
Futures Forum: Keith Owen Fund award for wild flowers in Sid Meadow
and 'shaking a box' on the High Street:
Futures Forum: Friends of the Byes raise more than enough for sowing and planting wildflowers in Sid Meadow

Here's the report from the FOTB chair:

Creating another wildflower meadow.

Volunteers gathered in Sid Meadow this Saturday 19th and Tuesday 22nd April to rotavate the ground, spread the wildflower seeds and rake them gently in.

East Devon District Council Parks department kindly prepared the new area at the bottom of Sid Meadow, by spraying and cutting the grass very short.

The money for the seeds was raised, mostly by the generosity of the Keith Owen Fund (£640) and also a collection from generous locals and visitors to the Byes. (£230)

We have bought seeds from Nova-Flore http://www.nova-flore.com  and also from Goran Farm http://www.goren.co.uk/online_store/
We also aim to purchase some wildflower plugs from Bee Talk man Neil Lovesey at Picket Lane Nursery http://www.picketlanenursery.co.uk later this year.

Last years wildflower area at the top part of Sid Meadow has been left to see what comes up and at the moment it looks rich and diverse, so fingers crossed this will put on a good show.

Lastly we hope that you will want to come along for one or all of our upcoming FOTB volunteer days listed below:
