Plans for Port Royal: "Basic renovation of the Drill Hall could pave the way for the redevelopment of the whole of Port Royal" ... but "Councils do not consider it worthwhile for anyone to invest in the building."

Following on from debate in the press on the future of the Drill Hall earlier this year:

... hope had been expressed that any proposals to transform the seafront buildings would be seriously considered:

However, the District Council has declared that it is determined not to allow any changes at Port Royal which could impede the eventual redevelopment of the site - despite considerable community engagement and consideration of the alternatives:

It seems, though, that the District Council has not been keen to allow independent inspection of the Drill Hall:

The example of 'redevelopment' given by the District Council for what might happen in Sidmouth is the current work being carried out at the seafront in Exmouth. Whether the demolition of Elizabeth Hall can be considered the 'redevelopment of Elizabeth Hall' is a matter of opinion:
