Bristol City Council’s plan to transform the way it works in order to save over £50m by April 2017 has taken a step forward with the submission of a Listed Building application for City Hall.

The application details plans to refurbish the interior of the Grade II* listed building so it is cheaper to run and can accommodate more staff in a modern office space where they can work with much greater efficiency. The scheme will also help lower the council’s long term carbon footprint whilst being respectful of City Hall’s heritage.

"This project is about using our property far more intelligently in order to make savings and avoid long-term costs. Like all local authorities we are facing the challenge of an increasing demand for services at the same time as having to reduce our budgets. It is important that we protect core council services as much as possible so we are taking bold steps with our estate to make sure it is efficient as possible."
