Ewan and his colleagues at the University of Exeter will be holding a whole day looking at extreme weather the weekend before: not only will there be some great speakers lined up for the day, including Helen Czerski (BBC presenter) and Dame Julia Slingo, Chief Scientist at the Met Office - but there will be art and music and other activities during the event.

Extreme Weather Event is a new kind of event offering you a unique opportunity to get the story straight from the scientists, and to put your experience of extreme weather here in Devon at the heart of the debate.
Who should attend?
This is a public event for everyone to attend. Please note; the evening session is ticketed.
What is the event about?
The winter of 2013/14 saw devastating floods and storms in Devon. This winter other parts of the country have shared in the misery.
With so many people flooded and so much damage to infrastructure, the question arises: how do we live with extreme weather events? And how will our future look?
Extreme Weather Event is a new kind of event offering you a unique opportunity to get the story straight from the scientists, and to put your experience of extreme weather here in Devon at the heart of the debate.
The day is split into two parts:
Extreme Weather and You (11.00 - 17.00)
This is a whole day of talks and workshops with a variety of family-based activities which are free to attend.
In our workshops you can discuss your experience of extreme weather, and engage directly with those researching extreme weather and climate change in Exeter.
Our talks will explain the scientific state of knowledge, complemented by a wide range of scientific activities for the whole family.
A question of extremes, including Climate Change Question Time (19.00 - 21.30)
Our ticketed evening event is a great opportunity to hear one of Britain's best-loved science broadcasters and an expert guest presenter; Helen Czerski, science broadcaster, and Dr Peter Stott, of the Met Office.

Programme - evening
19.00 - A question of extremes: how is our climate changing?
Helen Czerski and Dr Peter Stott will be exploring extreme weather, including the South West, and how it fits into a pattern of changing climate.
Helen and Peter will take you on an entertaining journey through the science of weather and climate, and show how there is much more to climate change than global warming.
Find out how the climate varies from a host of fascinating natural processes, and how science is making progress at helping all of us be more resilient to its unexpected impacts.
20.15 - Climate change question time
After Helen and Peter explore climate change and extreme weather you will be able to participate in a discussion on how climate and weather affects you and your community. This session will feature an expert panel:
