Local Enterprise Partnerships: "these next couple of weeks are crucial" for the Heart of the South West devolution bid

The East Devon Watch blog - together with the South Devon Watch blog - have been carrying several articles on the LEPs of late.

Here is a summary from the past ten days - with a few comments from observers:

"Actually I think the present time (these next couple of weeks) are crucial for HoSW, coz their prospectus has not been accepted by all Stakeholders, also it seems to me the LGAs + Exeter, Plymouth Councils etc., also people like Jonny Mercer and John Hart are having to be coy themselves until the HoSW deal is signed sealed and accepted by central government.
I’m feeling that this time is crucial for you in East Devon Watch and us at South Devon Watch – full steam ahead."

"We have big opportunities like Hinkley that is going to create 10,000 jobs over next decade. Most LEPs would love to have projects like that. There is also the City Deal in Plymouth that will release and utilise MoD space – we’re looking at 10,000 jobs there. We have more climate and environmental technologists in Exeter than anywhere else in the world but we don’t have a cluster of business at the moment – that’s a big opportunity."
