Knowle relocation project >>> a far more imposing development than assumed? Part Six: "the new building would be twice as high a the current building"

Streetlife continues to be an important place for debate - and highlighting points not covered elsewhere:
Futures Forum: Knowle relocation project >>> A far more imposing development than assumed? Part Four: Just how far down the terraces will they be building?

There is much more...

This is from a correspondant at Streetlife who has used software to calculate and draw the buildings - as the plans presented by the developer do not do this:

The picture N-N is from the Pegasus sectional views: it is the view of their 'plateau' buildings from the east. Using drawing software I have automatically calculated heights/distances as they appear on my computer. They allow one to see measurements in relation to each other.

So, if something shows as 20mm in my drawing and something else shows as 40mm we can be certain that one is twice the size of the other.

The picture from Pegasus shows the Caretaker's building, or building B as EDDC called it in the last application (it is the building they have to retain as it has bats in it). It also shows the proposed buildings both strongly and in faded grey.

The Caretaker's building is that 'small' building just right of centre. It is in fact three storeys high, and exactly the same height as the current Knowle buildings.

Taking the height of that Caretaker's building we can see exactly how much bigger the new buildings will be. The image when placed in my software measures as 41.30 mm, something exactly twice as big would measure 82.60 mm on the same picture.

Which follows on from this:

Sectional Elevation on Line N-N through the proposed plan of the new development

This is a copy of their drawing showing the sectional lines they have used. The line N-N, and the other lines, are an imaginary slice through the proposed development, just as if you took a sharp knife to a plasticine model of it and then looked at the cut edge.

You can see that section N-N shows only a small bit of of the proposed development. I have added the blue writing and arrows

According to the Herald today only 40 people have so far commented on the PegasusLife Knowle proposal.

Get your pens out folks.
