Following the success of last week's Devon Maritime Forum event:
Futures Forum: Devon Maritime Forum: Thurs 30th June conference >>> "Working Together for Our Coast and Seas"
Futures Forum: Brexit: and "the future of our marine environment and coastal communities"

... there is now a call to input into the South West Marine Plan:

The Marine Management Organisation has recently launched its Call for Issues and Supporting Evidence, part of their stakeholder engagement and evidence gathering process in relation to the next phase of Marine Plan development…including the South West Marine Plan.

This is the first of a number of opportunities over the course of the SW Marine Plans development to have your say and directly input into the process.

The call opened on 30th June and closes on 5th August.  As part of the call the MMO are hosting a number of workshops in the SW Plan Area:
  • Plymouth: Tuesday 19 July, National Marine Aquarium 10am to 4pm
  • Bristol: Wednesday 20 July, Colston Hall 10am to 4pm
  • Falmouth: Thursday 21 July National Maritime Museum 10am to 4pm

Developing the South West Marine Plan

We have begun developing a marine plan for the south west of England.

The south west marine area includes two plan areas, the south west inshore and the south west offshore marine plan areas.

The south west inshore marine plan area covers an area of approximately 2,000 kilometres of coastline stretching from the River Severn border with Wales to the River Dart in Devon, taking in over 16,000 square kilometres of sea.

The south west offshore marine plan area includes the marine area from 12 nautical miles extending out to the seaward limit of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), a total of approximately 68,000 square kilometres of sea.

You can see more details of the south west marine plan area on our Marine Information System’s interactive map.

You can find out more about how we will develop the South West Marine Plan here.
