The debate over what to do at Port Royal is getting quite heated:

The Herald has just put its article on the recent debate at the Town Council online:

Much of this debate concerns the possibility or not of 'land-swaps' - and the Port Royal site has already seen such a deal over the Drill Hall:

There are other parts of the District which have been involved in similar proposals for 'land-swaps':

SAVE CLYST ST MARY
November 19, 2015
the Save Clyst St Mary Campaign have not been party to or participated in any negotiations concerning land swapping by the Clyst Valley Football Club and Plymouth Brethren to facilitate any residential or other development on these green areas and, indeed, we were unaware of such proposals until they were mentioned at Monday’s meeting, when one of our representatives challenged such proposals.

SAVE CLYST ST MARY – FEBRUARY UPDATE
15 FEB 2016
The Parish Council has been sounded out by JLL about the possibility of a three way land swap. This would involve swapping the current Clyst Valley Football field for a new pitch on the Friends Site. The Plymouth Brethren land would swopped be for the Clyst Valley Football Pitch. An application would then be made to build a Plymouth Brethren meeting hall and large car park on the pitch.

SAVE CLYST ST MARY ~ APRIL UPDATE
11 April 2016
Obviously, if the land swap proposed by Friends Life were to go ahead, this agreed District Council allocation would be exceeded substantially, with the numerous detrimental consequences to our village that we have previously outlined.

'LAND SWAP' PLAN FOR NEW LIBRARY
By This is Devon | Posted: September 01, 2009
Cullompton's new £3m library might now be built on the site of the town's Station Road car park
PLANS to change the site of Cullompton's £3m library are under way — with only five months to go until construction is expected to start.
A 'land swap' is being considered by district and county councils which could result in the library being built on the opposite side of town — with the original site being turned into a car park.
A Devon County Council spokesman said: "We aim to submit a planning application by the end of the year. This suggestion of a land swap is something we will, and have time to, consider. It would depend upon the terms of the land swap and our negotiations with the district council. No external funding is at risk in this project so it is appropriate for us to consider the option at this stage. Contracts with Devon Primary Care Trust to purchase the site of the former health centre have already been exchanged and this new suggestion of a land swap is something we will need to consider."

Allotment holders' concern over land swap for hotel
By Herald Express | Posted: September 15, 2011
ALLOTMENT holders could hold the key to dreams of building a four-star hotel at one of Brixham's most prime locations.
The former Northcliffe Hotel site, with panoramic views across the Bay, has been derelict for 15 years.
Now there is talk that the London-based owner of the site wants to build a 'quality' hotel there.
But the project is dependent on a potential land swap deal and freeing up some allotment land for the hotel development.
Part of the allotment plots have been highlighted as part of a the potential land exchange which might see the long awaited hotel built at the Northcliffe site and a sports hub created on land behind Brixham Cricket Club's new North Boundary Road ground.
