Celebrating Trees with the Sidmouth Arboretum > report

At the end of the month, we had a celebration of trees:

Things went very well, as reported in the Herald over the weekend:

SIDMOUTH ARBORETUM 3rd annual CELEBRATION OF TREES last Friday – held in Cellar Bar of Kennaway House – welcomed a greater crowd than ever before.

With lively tree songs from the Sid Vale Choir interspersed with short talks from – amongst others - Richard Eley, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce on the Apple Trail project, John Wilding from Clinton Devon Estates on the difficulties of replanting after clearing conifers from hills around the Sid valley, and Town Councillor Simon Pollentine confirming the Town Council’s ongoing support for more tree planting this winter.

Chairman, Jon Ball, welcoming everyone

All run deftly by Jeremy Woodward, allowing time for the crowd to mingle among the stalls – make a purchase or two, and complete the quiz – won this year by Tess Stone.

Our thanks to all who contributed to a really successful evening, the EDDC Countryside team, National Trust, Friends of the Byes and of course the Sid Vale Association without whose support over the years, through the Keith Owen Fund, much of our work would not have begun!
