Hi everyone,

Welcome to our first news of 2018. While it's cold outside there's a lot of warmth in our groups and some brilliant events you might like below:

Exeter Community Energy is having its first Community Fund Allocation Event next Tuesday 16th January; and our friends at Positive Money will be hosting a discussion on Monetary Reform and Land Value Tax on Thursday 18th.  Both these policies would have a profound effect in making our economy more sustainable. 

Transition Exeter Core Group is looking for a Communications volunteer to help with publicising our events, working with the core group.  If you'd be interested and think you could help please get in touch - reply to this email if you like.

And there's also a note from David on behalf of our Transport Group: there is still a chance to prevent the closure of the bus station at the end of February months and probably years before work starts on the new bus station.

So plenty of opportunities to get involved!

Monetary reform and land reform - comfortable bedfellows?

Thursday 18 January, 19:00 - 21:00:

Exeter Community Centre, 17 St David's Hill, Exeter EX4 3RG

Positive Money's January meeting will be a talk about the compatibility of reform of our money and land reform by Julian Pratt, who has a special interest in land reform and land value tax and is a member of Earthsharing Devon and the Henry George Society of Devon. This will followed by an open discussion. Both policies would stop land and house prices going through the roof and help create a more sustainable economy.

ECOE Community Fund Allocation Event 

Plus - members survey report and news from ECOE's new projects

Tuesday 16th January 2018 18.30 - 20.30

The Meeting Room, Stephens Scown LLP, Southernhay, EXeter, EX1 1RS

Members are invited to come along and hear from the three projects that have applied for funding this year and take part in the decision-making. Visitors welcome.

After refreshments we're also give an update on the Trews Weir Hydro and Healthy Homes for Wellbeing projects, and hear from the members survey report.

Bus Station Closure

The present bus station is still going to be closed at the end of February although work on the new one is not due to start until December 2018 for completion two years later, which means that country buses will be running off temporary stops in the surrounding roads for nearly three years.
The Council's excuse for closing it so soon is to clear the site and tempt a new developer to come on board - ignoring the fact that this will probably take years to get back to the stage they were in with Crown Estates. Local residents are anticipating increasing traffic congestion on the roads around Sidwell Street. If this isn't necessary yet, please lobby your local Councillors hard to get them to see sense. It's still not too late
