Is your local council going bust? @ Radio 4

Local government has been in quite a state for some time now 
- a central issue being the lack of cash:
Futures Forum: The 'funding pressures' on local government
Futures Forum: The future of our care services: councils increasing tax to fund adult social care

Largely because local government is very limited as to how it can raise its income:
Futures Forum: Business rates: promising a 'fundamental reform of the system'
Futures Forum: County Council calls for "an urgent national review of local government funding" as "thousands of small businesses are set to be hammered by a rise in business rates"

Northamptonshire Council is having to sell off its HQ:
Futures Forum: Knowle relocation project: "a cash-strapped local authority is considering selling its new headquarters"

Radio 4's Briefing Room this evening looked at where we are now:
