Vegan-friendly Exeter continues to go from strength to strength, with more and more shops and restaurants offering vegan choices, and a second all-vegan cafe due to open soon! It's never been easier to go animal-free!
Meanwhile, the Exeter Vegan Market has already proved a great success, and is set to return from its summer break on Saturday, 29 September. So do come along and stock up on all your store-cupboard essentials, along with locally made vegan cheeses, cakes of all kinds, organic vegetables, cruelty-free toiletries, fair trade clothing, and much, much more. Catch up with friends over lunch from the ever-popular Fairfoods - and don't forget to bring your own bags and containers to help reduce waste!
Please note the October market takes place earlier in the month than usual, on 13 October. And we're excited to announce that this one will incorporate an exhibition by vegan artists in collaboration with the group Art of Compassion. An international collective art project, Art of Compassion raises funds through sales of art for non-profit animal rights organisations and sanctuaries, while also “opening the minds and hearts of people to animals”. Market advertising: if you're able to spread some flyers around where you live, we've left a pile of them at Rabbit cafe for that very purpose, so feel free to pick up a few on your next visit! And do keep sharing on social media, of course. Looking further ahead:Early to think of Christmas, we admit, but just a "heads-up" for the Animal Aid South West Christmas Without Cruelty Festival, which takes place this year on Saturday 24 November. As regulars will know, Mark Gold, the previous organiser, has now handed over the reins to Iain Green from Animal Aid, but other than that you can expect the same great cruelty-free extravaganza as every year, with all the usual features. EFFA will also be providing a team of helpers as always, so if you'd like to volunteer for any of the multitude of jobs on the day, please get in touch with Iain direct at iain@animalaid.co.uk. (He'll also be sending out more information in due course). Badger cullsMore immediately, the government has already begun its now annual mindless slaughter-fest in a wood near you - including the new east Devon/west Dorset zone. If you want to do something to help, please join one of the wounded badger patrolsin your area. Cull contractors are not allowed to shoot at free-roaming badgers while there are people in the area, so simply being in a public place or on a footpath where badgers are at risk can be enough to save their lives. Badger patrols are a completely legal and peaceful way of protecting our wildlife - and a good way to meet like-minded people!
