Fixfest UK – Sat 6th October – Manchester
Who is Fixfest for?
This year’s Fixfest UK is aimed at people who are actively involved in community repair. That means folks who organise and / or volunteer at Restart Parties or Repair Cafes or any other fix-focused community events.
The reason for this is we want to focus on increasing the skills and interconnectedness, and raising the collective voice of people who are making repair happen on a grassroots level. So please take a second before booking to think about whether this is the event for you.
The Programme
Fixfest is an ‘unconference’, that means participants collaboratively generate and deliver the sessions they want to see. The beauty of this is it can open up space for discussions and activities which reflect the ideas, skills and interests of the participants. There will be a balance of practical, hands-on sessions with discussions and workshops. Check out what’s on and help build the unconference programme.
Timings & Venues
Fixfest will take place at MadLab, Plant NOMA, Dantzic Street, M60 0AE
10am to 11am – Registration – MadLab
11am to 6pm – Unconference – MadLab
6pm til late – Social – The Pilcrow (open to the public, no ticket needed)
Food
We will provide hot and cold drinks, snacks and lunch during the day through MadLab’s excellent local chefs and suppliers. We can cater for different dietary requirements, just let us know when you book. What’s more, we will provide food to sate your appetite at the pub afterwards.
Travel
We know trains are expensive and we don’t want that to be a barrier to people coming to Fixfest from all over the UK. So here’s the deal, will support up to two people from any Restarter or other active community repair group with a travel subsidy of up to £100 each. To be eligible for this you must be part of a community repair group and, if you log your repair data with us, it must be up to date.
To get your travel subsidy, register for a ticket then we will verify your affiliation to a community repair group and give you the green light to book your travel. You need to book and send a digital version or photograph of the receipt along with your bank details to fixfest@therestartproject.org by Friday 14th September.
Reimbursement will take place after Fixfest. If you don’t attend, we’re afraid we won’t be able to cover your travel. We really encourage people to take public transport options like trains and coaches whenever possible.
Global Fixfest
If you’re outside the UK or not currently active in community repair and you’re feeling some serious FOMO right now, don’t despair! Global Fixfest 2019 will be bigger and badder than ever. In the meantime we’re working on materials to help you organise a Fixfest this year in your own country and spread the fixing love.
