The Transition Town group Sustainable Exmouth reports on the latest meeting:

I have notes from members Andy Lock and
Anne-Marie Culhane who attended, along with 50 others, the recent meeting with
Wayne Hemingway. Thanks very much to them.
I can share their report with any member who
asks.
Hemingway presented his survey results
(available on his Website). The research provided direction to a design
approach for the execution of any ideas which are contemporary, eclectic, and
environmentally sensitive. The design brief is broadly intended to reflect the
local topography, sea-front location and use of ‘natural’ materials wherever
possible.
Hemingway shared 12 concepts which were
presented as highly finished designs. He emphasised however that these are for
consideration only and that at THIS STAGE the discussion remains entirely open
and not only are new ideas welcome but that the designs themselves will require
further consideration as the entire plan for the site evolves.
It would appear however that nothing truly
innovative has been considered, all the possibilities mentioned can likely be
found elsewhere and thus our report's note of a lack of vision seems justified.
Seems that Tourist Resort marketing is the intention and facilities that would
really please us did not get much support. Our yardstick must remain:
‘A
FORWARD-LOOKING ECO-DESIGN THAT FEATURES ALL THE LATEST THINKING IN MATERIALS,
CONSTRUCTION AND RENEWABLE UTILITIES.’
We can yet revert to Hemingway with proposals
but he was clear that a commercial case must be made out for the profitability
of the whole.
