Friends of the Byes: volunteer days down on the Community Orchard

The latest news from FOTB:

Dear Friends of the Byes

We have now finished our portion of helping the SVA with The Million Bulb Project, although there are still many other bulb planting events with other groups across the valley, together with a big day of Planting on the 26th October on Peak Hill.

Friends of The Byes will be now be concentrating on the Community Orchard and planting various trees we have at specific sights in The Byes, as agreed with EDDC.

Tasks to do inside the Orchard.
  •       Mulch trees and bushes with rotted wood chip
  •       Fix sponsorship and in memory labels
  •       Re fix tree labels
  •       Strim around fruit trees in Orchard
  •       Clear some of the small Sycamore and replace with Black Mulberry tree
  •       Plant more fruit bushes and trees
  •       Reduce Blackberry cover
Tasks to do outside of the Orchard.
  •       Wash the interpretation boards
  •       Planting wildflowers
  •       Strim around small trees in Sid Meadow
  •       Replace trees lost in floods last year
  •       Plant trees and hedging
  •       Clean seats
  •       Clear grass from around base of newly planted trees and mulch.
If you would prefer to take charge of a particular task, please feel free, just let myself or Sally know. Also feel free to do any of the tasks outside our set volunteer dates when it suits you, again just let one of us know

Have we a willing volunteer that is competent in using a strimmer or a scythe to clear the grass in-between the young trees we planted in Sid Meadow last year? For more info please email FOTByes@gmail.com or phone Sally Atkinson on 01395 577383

All Friends of The Byes volunteer their time freely, but sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Would you be able to spare a few hours a month helping with some of the admin work? If so please email FOTByes@gmail.com or phone Sally Atkinson on 01395 577383

Here are our volunteer dates for the rest of October and November.
Please do come along with friends and family to all or as many dates as you can make. Your Community Orchard needs you…..
