New designations have just been announced - but none of these are in East Devon, as pointed out by the EDW blog - although the comment which follows is interesting:
NEW MARINE CONSERVATION ZONES DO NOT INCLUDE EAST DEVON
The pink sea fan corals, which are very rare and found in our area, are therefore not protected.

Sidmouth to the East Devon Border with Dorset along the cliffs and partly off shore are designated a Special Area of Conservation under the EC Habitats Directive. The whole Exe Estuary is a Marine Special Protection Area. So we have some protection.
