Devon County Council elections: the issues > flooding

There are several issues at stake at county level:
Futures Forum: Devon County Council elections > Hustings for Sidmouth: Friday April 28th > the issues

One is education:

Another is flooding:
Plan to tackle flooding in Sidmouth and Ottery - Sidmouth Herald

The problems can be smallscale - but still devastating to those effected:
Ongoing issues exacerbating flood risk to Sidmouth homes finally resolved - Sidmouth Herald

All this requires some larger scale thinking:
Sidmouth’s flood risk plan gets council approval - Sidmouth Herald

However, the County Council has been involved in some rather controversial areas of late.

KNOWLE:
Sidmouth residents say Knowle developer has failed to alleviate flash flood risk fears - Sidmouth Herald

And some consider the 'first phase' of flood alleviation in Sidmouth to be more about planning applications at the Knowle site:
Plan to prevent £12million of flood damage in Sidmouth - Sidmouth Herald

SIDFORD:
Damning response to Sidford business park plans - Sidmouth Herald

The County Council was not very robust in its stance, however:
Packed meeting hears concerns over ‘monstrous’ Sidford business park - Sidmouth Herald

Whilst the EA was bizarre in its response:
Environment Agency defends ‘incomprehensible’ support of Sidford business park plans - Sidmouth Herald

When it comes to the campaigning, flooding is certainly high on the agenda:

Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid praised Devon County Council for its hard work improving transport, broadband, boosting the economy and helping prevent flooding during his visit to Exeter. Sajid Javid MP was in the city to officially launch Devon Conservative's manifesto 'From Austerity to Opportunity' ahead of the local elections on May 4.

As flash flooding is a real threat to the Sid Valley, a major concern is to protect Sidford from speculative development particularly as there is no proven need for the industrial site.
