Herald photographer Alex Walton deliberated over 100 entries and narrowed it down to the final three in two age categories for under and over 17s.

Alex said: “It was a very good standard across the board and it was hard to judge - technically and emotionally.”

Participants met on Tuesday afternoon for a photograph, where they found out the results.

In the under 17 category, William Pullman won first place and a cheque for £25, Ben Hooper and Jack Garrick came in second and third and also received prizes of £15 and £10 respectively. William impressed the judge with his picture.

Alex added: “William’s actual print-out did not do the photo justice. It captured the spirit of The Byes.”

In the adult category, Ian Lange scored the title with his picturesque shot of The Byes. He will receive £50 of vouchers from Sidmouth Garden Centre.

Cheridah Stamford and John Davis were worthy runners-up and will also receive vouchers worth £25 and £15.

Michael Horsnell, from the Friends of the Byes, said: “The amount and quality of the entries has impressed us all. Many of the photos show such a wide range of perspectives and why so many people love this local beauty spot. The large amount of under-17s entries shows how important The Byes is for local recreation.”
