This is the latest newsletter from the FOTB:

Since our last email in early April, volunteers have been busy clearing grass and putting a layer of mulch around young trees. We do this to help them establish quicker and grow into healthier specimens.
The tree copses were planted about 3 years ago in early 2012

Volunteers have also planted a small area in Sid Meadow with more wild-flowers that we collected from last years flowers. We are hoping that previous sowings will come back up naturally and put on a good show. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1130401476985811

Next Tuesday 12th May, 7pm we will be holding our AGM at Sidford Rugby / Community Pavilion, Byes close, Sidford, EX10 9PY, please see poster attached. We hope you can join us for a talk by local historian professor Brian Golding on ‘The History of The Byes’. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be supplied.

We will also be launching our consultation to help in the forming of a 5 year management plan.

We are aiming to prepare it throughout 2015 with the help of Bicton College and consolidate all input into a 5 year management plan at the end of 2015. We are inviting land owners National Trust, East Devon District Council and Sid Vale Association for their input.

Importantly we are also inviting all locals and visitors to offer their thoughts on the Byes. Please take a few moments to share your thoughts on the Byes and what you improvements or management you would like to see over the next 5 years. To help get you started there is an attached consultation that can be completed and emailed back to FOTByes@gmail.com

To speak about volunteering or our AGM please phone Kati on 01395 578344 or 07817 041239

One photo attached is of volunteers taking a break in Sid Meadow on one of our Saturday volunteer mornings.

The other two attached photos are both looking North at the bottom of Sid Meadow AKA Roly Poly Hills, the older one was taken in 1897 which we borrowed it from an article by Nigel Hyman on the History of the Byes.
