And later this month, Transition Exeter will be looking at the drought from almost 40 years ago:

June TE Meeting:

Remembering the Great Drought of 1976 - how memories can shape the management of water resources for the environment

Thursday 25 June, Exeter Community Centre, 7:00pm

In this talk we will give an overview of the Historic Drought Project and some of the interesting 'finds' from historical sources in Devon. We will consider how looking back and retrieving otherwise lost memories of coping in a drought can help to fill in the gaps in instrumental data records, which may help to make future climate models more accurate, as well as shedding light on how best to manage scarce water resources in the future. This will be an interactive session. Members of the audience will be invited to donate their memories to our national archive, and hopefully, if the technology works, they will be able to listen to some of the memories that have already been deposited.
