And an update from the Drill Hall Rescue site:

A formal Community Bid comes closer

Dear Friends,

As promised here is an update.

Drill Hall Rescue has decided to put all its resources behind the Sidmouth Sunrise efforts to create a Community Bid which will be acceptable to East Devon District Council, and fight off competition from any commercial bidders.

Drill Hall Rescue will also continue as normal because we have to be prepared for the possibility of EDDC not choosing to support a Community Bid. If they choose a commercial bidder then we will be needed to fight any inappropriate changes to the hall, or attempts to have it demolished.

Gillian Mitchell of Sidmouth Sunrise is making great strides towards having a sensible business plan which can be used to bring in financial backers. She has the support of people who will act as partners in approaching various national funding bodies, and is in contact with heritage bodies for the South West. There is also the potential for considerable financial backing from an individual; although discussions are at a very early stage.

Drill Hall Rescue will support her in her efforts in many ways, including being a way for people to keep in touch with what she is doing. These newsletters will contain information from her as well as from us in the future. You can also find her on Facebook and a website will be coming soon.

I have told John Kinsey of JLL that we are now a combined operation and he is treating us as a single unit.

As far as I am aware there is no other group in Sidmouth who is intending to bring forward a community bid so I hope that everyone in the town can pull behind Gillian. Please keep encouraging people to sign up to these newsletters and to check the website as that is the way of showing your support.

As we get closer to the deadline of Feb 4th 2019, when the bids have to be in, there will be loads of publicity and chances for engagement but at the moment keep sharing the newsletters!

Kind regards, Mary
