The power of the sea - its tides and its waves

Considering various current projects
Futures Forum: Tidal reef in Swansea Bay
as well as proposed projects
Futures Forum: Tidal Reef at Port Royal

... one wonders if our understanding of the power of the sea will be fully realised.

Here are some photographs from Vision Group member Graham Cooper from the recent storms at Sidmouth's seafront:

West Beach - 11th February.
... a 10 ton slab of concrete which has been dislodged from the hard standing at Jacob's Ladder and deposited 10 metres west.  Imagine the  forces and amount of energy required to shift this!

Clifton Beach - 11th February.
Note the effectiveness of the (exposed) stones and boulders in protecting the Millennium Walkway.

East Beach - 11th February.
Note the comparatively few rocks and boulders offering (scant) protection to Pennington Point.
