Beach Management Plan: “These investigations are an essential part of our studies to move forwards a scheme to maintain and improve the town’s protection from flooding and I’m pleased to see East Devon continuing to make good use of local expertise.”

Work is underway to determine what needs doing to protect Sidmouth's coastline - the only problem being that it is still not clear which 'options' are still on the table:

Here's today's report on where we are now from the Herald:

‘Essential’ excavation works are nearing completion as part of ongoing work to develop Sidmouth’s beach management scheme.
Diggers have been carrying out work recording materials as part of an investigation into the ground conditions on Sidmouth beach and east beach.
The investigations have focused on areas where the council is considering the construction of one or two rock groynes on east beach, Port Royal and also at the River Sid Training Wall on Sidmouth Beach, where the council is considering options to improve maintenance access onto east beach.
The district council appointed South West Geotechnical and Axminster Excavators to do the works which are due to be completed tomorrow (November 8) after wind and wave conditions caused delays.
Cllr Phil Twiss, the chairman of the Sidmouth Beach Management Scheme steering group, said: “These investigations are an essential part of our studies to move forwards a scheme to maintain and improve the town’s protection from flooding and I’m pleased to see East Devon continuing to make good use of local expertise.”
The investigation will be used by consultants Royal Haskoning DHV as it prepares an outline design for the beach management scheme
The design is due early 2018 and will allow the council to predict costs and benefits of the scheme more accurately.
