And here's the press release for this year's event from its chair:
A CELEBRATION OF TREES
At the start of National Tree Week, Sidmouth Arboretum is holding a celebration party at the Cellar Bar of Kennaway House in Sidmouth on
Friday 25 November 6 – 8.30pm
The Arboretum will be repeating the success of last year , an evening of organised chaos which allows everyone to learn a little, chat a little and generally have an stimulating evening.
Starting with a tree song from the Sid Vale Folk Choir, visitors can visit the stalls, talk to experts, take part in the raffle, ponder the answers to quiz questions, or listen to our M.C. Steve Potter who will trace the story of yew trees. All while relaxing with a drink and light refreshment and planning their tree planting for this winter.
An excellent gathering of experts across a wide range of interests are invited to speak of 3 minutes – and no longer. Among the contributors:
Graham Cooper, architect and author, the importance of trees to health, supported by Dr Duncan Hall and Sidmouth in Bloom.
Professor Brian Golding on the yews in the Parish Churchyard
John Wilding, of Clinton Devon Estates, on the thrills and threats to trees
Trainee conservation manager with EDDC, Laura Gople, on how trees can reduce risk of flooding
Ecologist Louise Woolley on what bats need to thrive
Kate Tobin, on behalf of the Forestry Commission, update on grants
Claire Wright, how we depend on government policy
Landscape to Legacy manager Ruth Worsley on what trees tell us about history of the landscape.
Entry is free, all are welcome, why not pop in?
