An 'Eden-project' for China

A local group has launched a campaign to bring something really dynamic to Exmouth's seafront:
Futures Forum: An 'Eden-project' for Exmouth?

Meanwhile in Morecombe, things are beginning to take shape - as they are in China - with this fantastic design on the Architects' Journal website:

Grimshaw’s Eden Qingdao scheme - early iteration:

The AJ can reveal that Grimshaw has begun working on proposals to build a new £100 million Eden Centre in Morecambe

It is understood the AJ100 practice has undertaken early feasibility studies to build an eco-tourist attraction on the site of the town’s former Dome entertainment centre and Bubbles swimming pool.

Eden Project chiefs said initial worked had proved a scheme would be viable at the west coast resort and was now seeking financial backing to take the project forward.

Simon Bellamy, head of Eden Project International, said the vision for the Morecambe involved re-imagining ’what the 21st century seaside resort could look like’. He added: ’The Eden Project in Cornwall is about the connection with plants, this is about the connection with this wonderful environment here in Morecambe, the bay.’

Eileen Blamire, the leader of Lancaster City Council, which is a partner on the scheme, said: ‘Eden’s big and exciting and plans have the potential to be a real game changer for Morecambe, for Lancashire and for the whole region, transforming the economy, raising prosperity and creating new jobs.’

Grimshaw is already designing a new wave of potential centres for the Eden Project in Australia, New Zealand and China.

The expansion plans include three schemes in China, including a £150 million scheme at Qingdao, which would become the first overseas Eden Project to be built and could complete by 2020. In February this year the Qingdao proposal received a major boost as a result of Theresa May’s visit to China.

Eden Project International chief executive David Harland – travelling with the British prime minister on her first official visit to China – signed a deal with Zhao Lintao of China Jinmao Holdings in Beijng setting out the terms of the partnership’s development of Eden Qingdao.
