Sidmouth Arboretum - Sidmouth Arboretum Tree Day 15th June
another is being planned for next year:
ANNUAL TREE DAY
28th June 2014 is booked – with Jon Stokes from the Tree council speaking. Those who have heard and seen him speak know that he is great source of information & inspiration. Other speakers to follow.
Meanwhile, TREE TRAIL LEAFLETS are being put together for Sidbury and Salcombe Regis.
And AUTUMN TREE PLANTING will be taking place over the coming months – see the Herald for updates.
A very ambitious project working with local schools will start next year - and needs some help with supervision :
TREE
SURVEY
The Sidmouth Arboretum will be carrying out the "treeconomics" survey in 2014.
St John's School and Sidmouth College are very willing to take part - but adult supervisors will be needed to accompany each team for one or two days over the summer.

The Arboretum will have an
information day on the afternoon of Thursday 28th November: anyone is welcome to attend to find out more about what is involved.
This will be mainly about > tree identification, assessing height and general health and taking photos.
This information will then be fed into a database by treeconomics and the results produced and a report written.

The Survey will
‘promote better understanding of the benefits and services provided by trees’.
It will provide an understanding of the structure of the urban forest such as canopy cover, species importance rankings, available planting space, species composition and age distribution.

Placing a £s value on ecosystem services has always been a difficult task. Treeconomics specialises in measuring natural capital and valuing ecosystem services – the economic, environmental and financial value of trees, forests and green infrastructure. For example, Treeconomics can calculate the amount of carbon absorbed and stored and the amount of pollution filtered by trees and place a pound value on these ecosystem services.
