A quick reminder that Friends of The Byes are continuing with improvements to the Community Orchard ... all are welcome to lend a hand.
We will be continuing to clear the edges of the Orchard, also clearing and mulching around the trees.
Thanks to EDDC who have cut back the bulk of the grass and brambles Thursday just gone, allowing a few more spaces for fruit trees and making it easier for volunteers to keep the rest of the orchard tidy.
Please join us in the Orchard: we have tools, but feel free to bring a flask.

Volunteer work in the Community Orchard on Saturday 2nd and Thursday 7th November 2013
Volunteers strimmed and cleared grass from around fruit trees followed by covering the roots with a thick layer of well rotted mulch.

This area is owned by the National Trust and four years ago was used for grazing sheep - and was therefore out-of-bounds for dogs.
So the fact that the Community Orchard is 'dog-free' - or, rather, 'children-friendly' - is not exactly a 'change of use'...
Many people requested a Dog free area in the Byes as a safe area to let young children run about in and as an educational space for schoolchildren.
As the Orchard starts to produce fruit next year, keeping it dog-free will be much more hygienic. — at The Byes.
