Plans for Port Royal > Still no news of when the Drill Hall will come to market.

All sorts have been happening on the seafront of late:
Futures Forum: Beach Management Plan: District Council press release on meeting of 10th May > "Outline business case makes steady progress"
Futures Forum: The Big Lunch on The Ham >>> Saturday 2nd June >>> Anne Swithenbank to open the Sensory Garden
Futures Forum: Plastics Week in Sidmouth: and the Plastic Warriors >>> making art down on the beach at the Sea Fest
Futures Forum: "The Ham needs something rather more special: the proposed new Alma Bridge is functional but undistinctive"

Much of this involves the Drill Hall - the future of which is still uncertain:
Futures Forum: Plans for Port Royal > When will the Drill Hall go on the market?

Here's a 'quick update' from the Drill Hall Rescue website:

Dear Friends,

Still no news of when the Drill Hall will come to market. As far as I know the decision on which firm will handle the marketing has not yet been made.

One reason for delay may be connected to the leadership change at East Devon District Council where Council Leader Paul Diviani has been replaced by Ian Thomas.

Cllr Thomas has reorganised the Portfolio Holders at the Council and also instituted changes in the responsibilities which fall under various headings; so it may be that delay is occurring as new people review the workings of the officers under them.

Assets such as the Drill Hall are now overseen by Cllr Geoff Pook, I hope that he views Sidmouth and its need to attract tourism in the same way as his very successful Beer constituency, and that he also sees the Drill Hall as being a very useful opportunity to provide facilities for the town's best interests.

kind regards, Mary
