Fracking in Fort McMoney: a web documentary and strategy video game about Fort McMurray, the oil sands capital of Alberta, Canada

It's an interesting idea, to combine 'serious subject' and gaming:

Tar sands extraction, Hollywood-style.

The product of 60 days filming on location over two winters, Fort McMoney is possibly better described as an interactive documentary than a game. Based on Fort McMurray, a boom-town for oil extraction, it largely explores the social impact of the oil industry on the area. Produced by National Film Board of Canada as well as the French-German broadcaster Arte, it is available in English, French and German. Fort McMurray’s population has increased from a few thousand to more than 100,000 people over the last ten years. As with many other oil developments the world over, this has created disparities of wealth, as well as the destruction of natural habitats and concern over greenhouse gasses.
