Sidmouth's Classic Car Show has received a record number of entries this year
Motoring enthusiasts, environmentalists and fun-loving families will all find something to enjoy at Sidmouth’s classic car show tomorrow (Saturday).
A ‘wonderful array’ of vehicles - from classic motors to the latest energy saving technology – will be on display from 11am, at Sidmouth Cricket Club, in Fortfield Terrace.
The unique event has attracted a record number of entries this year and organisers will be keeping their fingers crossed for fine weather so visitors can come and experience the many things on offer.
SidEnergy’s Alternative Energy Vehicle Show has been incorporated into The Sidmouth Classic Car Show and Family Day for this year and on top of that, there will be a host of entertainment, including a ukulele group and jazz band.
Back by popular demand, this year’s show has created an unprecedented storm, receiving more than 200 entries, and there will be plenty for the whole family to enjoy, with plenty of attractions.
Organiser Mike Lavers believes it is this unique variety that sets the show apart from the rest.
Speaking at a Chamber of Commerce meeting, he said: “This year’s car show seems to have taken the motoring world by storm and we have had more than 200 entries.”
He told the Herald: “It’s looking very good but the only thing we cannot control is the weather.
“The show has become slightly different to other shows because, not do only do we have classic cars, but we also highlight the latest technology and incorporate the Alternative Energy Vehicle Show, so we are unique.
“In fact, our local BMW branch rang up to see if they could bring some of their latest energy saving technology. It has been the best supported show we have had and we now have 16 sponsors.
“We will have a total of 220 vehicles, compared to about 135 last year.
“There will be some wonderful cars there right across the spectrum.”
The event, run by Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce in partnership with The Crash Box Club of Devon, helps support good causes around the town, as well as drawing in visitors towards the end of the tourist season.
The cricket club will be supplying refreshments on the day.
There is no charge for the event, but organisers hope visitors will be happy to bring a donation to support it.
The show is weather dependent.
