Innovation vs. The Nanny State: "How markets are solving the problems government can't" >>> Monday 2nd October

The 'future' of 'the economy' is often framed in terms of 'innovative technologies':

Although it's not working everywhere:

Politicians like to talk 'innovation':

One area where these ideas collide is health:

The Adam Smith Institute is all about 'innovation' and 'enterprise':

It will be at the Conservative Party conference:

The Adam Smith Institute at the Conservative Party Conference:
Nanny state, cannabis and winning young voters

If you're in Manchester for the Conservative Party Conference, you might like to come along to some of the Adam Smith Institute's Conference Fringe events. We've lined up some excellent speakers to talk on topics like vaping, cannabis and how free marketeers can win over young voters.

All of our panels will take place inside the Secure Zone (that means you'll need a Conference Pass to attend), but there's no need to RSVP ahead of time.

Here's what we've got lined up:

Monday 2nd October

Innovation vs. The Nanny State: How markets are solving the problems government can't

Time: 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Venue: Stanley Suite, The Midland Hotel

E-cigarettes are enabling millions of smokers to give up more effectively than any public health campaign.

But increasingly they're being targeted by excessive regulation.
The Tobacco Products Directive is placing tight restrictions on E-cigarette manufacturers and sellers, restricting their ability to market to consumers including restricting them from quoting evidence that vaping is safer than smoking.
After Brexit, Britain will have a chance to reform E-cigarette regulations and support a harm reduction revolution.
Will it take it?

Speakers

Dr Roger Henderson, Media GP and Spectator Columnist
Christopher Snowdon, Head of Lifestyle Economics, Institute of Economic Affairs
Sam Bowman, Executive Director, Adam Smith Institute
Dr Eamonn Butler, Director, Adam Smith Institute
